I've spent most of the last 40 years studying Scripture, and I can tell you — the more I read, the more amazed I become. Not because the words are complicated, but because they're true. Provably, historically, miraculously true.
God didn't just inspire the Bible and hope we'd take His word for it. He left His fingerprints all over it.
Think about a prophecy written 700 years before Jesus was born. Isaiah wrote, "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel" (Isaiah 7:14). Seven centuries later, a young woman named Mary gave birth in Bethlehem, exactly as foretold. Not close. Not similar. Exact.
That's not luck. That's divine authorship.
When I wrote *Handwriting on the Wall*, I wanted to show people something simple but profound: the Bible proves itself. Micah 5:2 pinpointed Bethlehem as the Messiah's birthplace — a tiny, insignificant town. Zechariah 9:9 said He'd ride into Jerusalem on a donkey. Psalm 22 described crucifixion in detail — centuries before crucifixion was even invented. Isaiah 53 painted a picture of His suffering so vivid, you'd think the prophet stood at the foot of the cross.
These aren't vague predictions. They're specific, verifiable, and fulfilled.
I often think about a detective dusting for fingerprints at a crime scene. He's looking for proof — evidence that someone was there. God left His fingerprints throughout Scripture so we'd know without a doubt: He was there. He is here. And His Word is trustworthy.
When doubts creep in — and they do for all of us — I go back to the prophecies. I read Daniel's vision of world empires rising and falling exactly as he described. I trace the lineage of Jesus through 42 generations, just as Matthew recorded. I marvel at how a book written by 40 authors over 1,500 years tells one cohesive story without a single contradiction.
That's not human wisdom. That's God's hand guiding every word.
Peter said it perfectly: "No prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit" (2 Peter 1:20-21). The Holy Spirit authored this book, friend. And He made sure we'd recognize His signature.
So when life feels uncertain, when questions loom large, when you wonder if God is really in control — open your Bible. Look for His fingerprints. They're on every page, in every prophecy fulfilled, in every promise kept.
The handwriting is on the wall. And it's signed by the hand of God.
Take a moment today. Pick one prophecy — maybe Isaiah 53 or Psalm 22. Read it slowly. Then read its fulfillment in the Gospels. Let the evidence speak. Let God's fingerprints lead you to trust.
